Gambia hace historia

Italy ready to celebrate after Russia win

"Something really strange would have to happen" for Italy not to qualify said coach Pietro Ghedin after a 2-0 win against Russia, whose players reflected on their costly defeat.

 by Alexandr Ustinov
 from Trud Stadium

Goals from the evergreen Patrizia Panico on eight and 65 minutes gave Italy a 2-0 victory in Russia and total control of UEFA Women's EURO 2013 qualifying Group 1.
With seven perfect wins and 25 unanswered goals, Italy are now nine points ahead of Russia and will qualify for the finals in Sweden two games early with victory against the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia on 16 June, when coach Pietro Ghedin expects to "be able to celebrate". Russia's players admitted the early goal proved a blow from which they could not recover.
Pietro Ghedin, Italy coach

We have to wait a bit more to start celebrating. However, something really strange would have to happen now for us to miss out on qualification. Considering we have two games at home, only one away and are ahead on goal difference and head-to-head, I would say we are nearly there. I think we will be able to celebrate on 16 June and we deserve to because this group have matured in recent months and have improved in many aspects, technically and mentally.

Anastasia Kostyukova, Russia defender
Our coach told us about our opponents' tactics, about their habit of playing the ball behind the defence and warned us how to play. We had to score but we did not manage to do it. We are not satisfied with the result. We had to win and we wanted to win but the quick goal shocked us. We needed a lot of time to recover from it. Italy have always played a pressure game and are a team with character. We were lacking shots on goal and if had we managed to do this, Italy would have felt the danger. We have to win the rest of our games and hope that we will play at EURO 2013.

Elena Medved, Russia defender
I don't know what the coach said but I think it influenced the game. It was very difficult for me to come on in such a complicated game. The Italians are very quick. We couldn't get the ball forward enough and we were unable to support the attack.

Ekaterina Sochneva, Russia forward
We were probably too nervous before the game and did not understand each other on the pitch very well. We tried to change the course of the game but unfortunately we only managed to do that in the second half. Italy are very strong and we prepared seriously but it turned out that we had to recover from the beginning. We could not play as we wanted to and had no chances to score.

Germany striker Célia Okoyino da Mbabi struck four goals to inspire a crucial 5-0 UEFA Women's EURO 2013 qualifying Group 2 defeat of Spain but both she and Viola Odebrecht were relieved they did not pay for a slow start.
Having scored hat-tricks in Germany's last two games in the Algarve Cup, a 4-0 win against Sweden and 4-3 final defeat of world champions Japan, she now has a tally of ten goals in three games and boasts a qualifying-leading tally of nine. Alexandra Popp also struck as Germany moved three points clear of their main group rivals, who had held them 2-2 in November, and Spain's Verónica Boquete is now focusing on pipping Switzerland to second place.
Célia Okoyino da Mbabi, Germany forward
I am really happy about the victory against Spain, that was our goal and we can now focus on playing Switzerland [on Thursday]. We had a very bad first half, there was a lack of focus and we played very bad passes. And even when I scored the first goal, things didn't really get better and we showed a face, we haven't seen before and we didn't know.
But in the second half we improved our game and scored more goals. I really feel fit and I can only confirm everything is working fine for me, I haven't had any bad injuries recently, so I have been able to develop my game and it is just fun to play in this team. It is nice if the result of this is to score many goals. Tomorrow we will start preparing for the Switzerland game.
Viola Odebrecht, Germany midfielder
In the first 30 or 40 minutes we were not the team we used to be. We were too late in the tackle and didn't show what we can do. Spain were able to shine, because we were that bad. I have no idea why we didn't get into the game. It went much better in the second half, but we still didn't show what we really can do. When we scored the second and third goal it was much easier for us and Spain lost confidence, but in general our performance was not worthy of a Germany team today.
Verónica Boquete, Spain forward
In the first 25 minutes we really made Germany suffer. But after the first goal and especially the second early in the second half we hung our heads a bit, they robbed us of the ball in midfield quickly and started fast counterattacks. And a quality side like Germany know how to finish their chances, each shot was a goal.
We came here for a win or draw, but we knew it would be difficult. Our goal is to qualify for EURO 2013 and we have to build on the first half today. The game against Switzerland [on 16 June] will be a key game, as they are our big rivals for the second place in the group, but we still have every chance of automatic qualification as best runners-up.

I am really happy about the victory against Spain, that was our goal and we can now focus on playing Switzerland

EEUU y Panamá consiguen primeras victorias en premundial femenino

AFP | Fecha: 03/02/2012

LIVERPOOL  1  ARSENAL  3
Arsenal have been crowned the inaugural WSL champions after beating Liverpool 3-1 at Skelmersdale.
The hosts attempted a valiant second-half comeback following a below-par display before the break.
Rachel Yankey scored two impressive first-half goals to put the Gunners ahead, and it was those strikes, plus a second-half Kim Little penalty, that handed Arsenal the title.

The soccer playing women and girls celebrated their jubilee in 1995: After 25 years the DFB Bundestag (Assembly) decided to lift the ban on women's soccer which had been imposed in 1955, and signalled green light for a remarkable development, at the top of which stands the national team. After a second place at the world cup championship in 1995 the German Team became world champion for the first time on October 13, 2003 after a 2-1 victory in the final against Sweden and defended their title four years later in China after a 2-0 against Brazil. Further successes were the european championship title in 1989, 1991, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2005 and 2009.

Marta on fire, hope for the Matildas

(FIFA.com) Sunday 3 July 2011

THE DAY REPLAYED – This was the day the gifted Brazilians emphatically stated their intention of going all the way at the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011™. In the second round of Group C matches, the South Americans cruised to a 3–0 victory over Norway, making it two wins out of two and sealing their quarter-final berth. In front of a capacity crowd in Wolfsburg, Brazil took a first-half lead through a sublime effort from FIFA Women's World Player of the Year Marta. The goal took the wind out of Norway's sails and A Seleção proceeded to produce some exhibition football. Marta was at the centre of everything good, rounding off the scoring shortly after Rosana had doubled the advantage.
